Nipsey Hussle Class Coming To L.A. University Where He Once Taught

A Nipsey Hussle program will soon be offered at a university in Los Angeles where the late rapper from Crenshaw once taught.

On December 14, Nipsey’s longstanding business partner David Gross announced on Instagram that the spring 2023 semester of Loyola Marymount University’s College of Business Administration would feature the “The Marathon Continues: Building Brand Through Culture” course.

The Marathon Continues: Building Brand Through Culture, a course I’ll be teaching at Loyola Marymount’s business school, will mark the beginning of the TMC takeover of higher education beginning the next month, he said. “Hussle’s brilliance and genuineness in his approach to business and life will be the main topics of the session.

I must send flowers to Mitchell Hamilton, a tenured professor and the director of the Marketing Department at Loyola Marymount University’s business school (@lmucba), who goes by the handle @thefreshprofessor. In 2017, he got in touch with Nip and me and asked whether we’d be willing to instruct a course at the business school. He allowed us complete freedom with the condition that we were sincere and did not dilute anything because we were in a university setting.

“The class was a hit, and it resulted in a second class the following semester,” he continued. Since it was the spring of 2019, the class was never completed. #LLNHTG.”

The new course, which is scheduled to start in January, will cover the methods and techniques used by the late Nipsey Hussle to achieve success and will feature weekly guest lecturers.

According to the course description, “this course focuses on brand creation methods and tactics that are inspired and driven through cultural impact.” Some of the most influential personalities in the music and entertainment industries will provide live weekly guest lectures.

The lecture series carries on the famous Professor Nipsey Hussle’s legacy of teaching LMU A-LIST students how to brand in “The Marathon Way.”

With the planned “Marathon Continues” course celebrating Nipsey Hussle’s legacy, Gross said Loyola Marymount University has always been open to him teaching another session.

In the years that followed, “Mitch has reached out to me several times, extending the chance to return and teach another session,” he stated. He always said I could teach anything I wanted as long as it would inspire and challenge his students.

It’s finally time, he wrote, “to go back this Spring and teach a class that celebrates Nip’s immense legacy and examines how he was able to make a difference in the world by developing the most iconic brand to emerge from the culture, #TMC.”

On March 31, 2019, Nipsey Hussle (real name Ermias Asghedom) was cruelly shot and killed outside his Marathon Clothing store in South Los Angeles, leaving a huge void both in his hometown and the larger Hip Hop scene.

Eric Holder, 32, was found guilty in July of killing the renowned rapper from Crenshaw. The sentencing hearing for Holder, who fatally shot Nipsey over claims that he was a snitch, was scheduled to take place last month but has since been postponed.
