The sixth edition of the Scream franchise will take place in New York City, as revealed in the movie’s first official teaser trailer. The first five films in the series were set in the fictional California town of Woodsboro.
Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown from Scream 5, whose characters survived the brawl in the previous movie, return to the franchise in the one-minute clip. This time, Ghostface terrorizes the squad on a NYC subway train bound for Brooklyn as the group tries to depart Woodsboro in the past. The train is surrounded by costumed Halloween partygoers.
Along with Hayden Panettiere from Scream 4, Scream 4 stalwart Courteney Cox is back. Samara Weaving, Dermot Mulroney, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, and others are new to the franchise.
Notably, Neve Campbell, who played the franchise’s star, Sidney Prescott, won’t be coming back. The actress admitted in June that the offer she received for the sixth movie did not meet her expectations. In a statement, she stated, “As a woman, I have had to work really hard in my career to show my value, especially when it comes to Scream.” “I felt the offer that was made to me did not correspond to the value I had contributed to the business,” the applicant said.
Scream 6 will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who previously oversaw the fifth episode. For the upcoming project, writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, who wrote this year’s Scream, are also involved.
The movie Scream 6 will hit theaters on March 10 of 2023.
