Neil Diamond made a rare Broadway appearance to perform ‘Sweet Caroline.’

After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, the 81-year-old music legend retired from touring in 2018.

He’s performed the mega-hit a few times since, most recently at the Boston Red Sox in June.

He also performed at the opening night of ‘A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical’ at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City on Sunday (04.12.22).

Diamond performed at the 2020 Keep Memory Alive Power of Love gala at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas prior to the Red Sox game.

Just over two years later, he returned to Fenway Park in Boston to sing the Red Sox’s football anthem for their game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

For the performance, Diamond was joined by Broadway star Will Swenson, who plays the legendary musician in ‘A Beautiful Noise, the Neil Diamond Musical.’

After being diagnosed with the degenerative condition, the ‘America’ singer announced his retirement from touring with “reluctance and disappointment.”

He said in a statement at the time: “I announce my retirement from concert touring with great reluctance and disappointment. For the past 50 years, I have been honored to present my shows to the public.

“Please accept my heartfelt apologies to everyone who purchased tickets and planned to attend the upcoming shows.”

Despite his decision to stop touring, Diamond stated that he would continue writing and recording music for a “long time to come.”

“I intend to stay active in writing, recording, and other projects for a long time,” he added.

“I’d like to express my gratitude to my devoted fans all over the world.” You will always have my gratitude for your encouragement and support. Thanks to you, this ride has been “so good, so good, so good.”

Diamond sold his entire song catalog to Universal Music Group earlier this year.

The agreement included 110 previously unreleased tracks, an unreleased album, and archive videos.

“After nearly a decade in business with UMG, I am grateful for the trust and respect that we have built together, and I am confident that Lucian, Jody, Bruce, Michelle, and the global team at UMG will continue to represent my catalogue and future releases with the same passion and integrity that has always fuelled my career,” he said.
