Jury selection started in the criminal trial of Daystar Peterson, popularly known as Tory Lanez, following numerous delays, controversies in the media, and considerable expectations.

For those who may not recall, Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez got into a brawl in an SUV in the Hollywood Hills that finally turned into gunfire.

After Megan alleged that Tory shot her in the foot, he was subsequently charged with assault. On this episode of TSR Investigates, we spoke with professor and entertainment lawyer J. Christopher Hamilton to learn more about this well-known case.

It’s not yet known if Tory Lanez will testify, but Megan Thee Stallion is anticipated to do so. But we’ll be keeping a close eye on this situation and covering all the details. Will fresh facts be made public and alter how people view Tory Lanez? Or will Tory actually face charges for what he is allegedly guilty of?

On Monday, Lanez showed up in court in Los Angeles wearing a suit and turtleneck and even posting on social media.

“Have a blessed day,” the 30-year-old tweeted.

A source was told by Hamilton, an attorney for the entertainment industry, that there has been a lot of false information spread about the case thus far.

“A lot of the discussion and discourse on this is very misleading, because we don’t know all of the information.”

According to an entertainment lawyer, the absence of reliable eyewitnesses may work in Lanez’s favor and harm the prosecution.

Hamilton continued by saying that the rapper’s lawyer most likely asked for the frequent delays in the case, usually to give the defense more time to look into and prepare.

The entertainment attorney and professor continued by saying that the lack of credible eyewitnesses, who could hinder their case, will probably be advantageous to the defense, i.e. Lanez and his lawyers.

“Many would see that as Megan’s friend not supporting her claim,” Hamilton said. “We haven’t heard anything from the bodyguard/driver, but we can assume that that’s Tory’s bodyguard, and he’s likely not to be in support of Megan’s perspective.”

Hamilton acknowledged that one eyewitness was named in the statement, but that individual was still unsure of the precise identity of the gunfire.

Meg is anticipated to testify at trial, but it is unknown if Tory Lanez will do so.
It is anticipated that Megan will testify, but it is unclear if Tory will join her.

The entertainment attorney commented on the jury selection process on Monday, stating that Tory and Megan are “household names,” but added that the jury selection procedure shouldn’t take too long.

“However, there is still a vast majority of the population that has no clue who these people are, and it will likely be those people who will be on the jury.”

When Meg initially denied being shot, she later said she was acting to “protect all of us.”

Additionally, she claimed Lanez was incredibly sorry and even offered to pay her “a million dollars” to keep quiet about the shooting.

“He’s apologized, he’s like ‘I’m so sorry,’” she told King in a recent and candid interview. “Please don’t tell nobody, I’ll give ya’ll a million dollars if you don’t say nothing.”

Meg then questioned, “Why would you offer me money, help me?” while sobbing.

She continued by asserting that those who are attempting to use her initial claim of a glass injury against her are accusing her of lying. She doubled down on her allegation that she initially made it in order to defend Lanez at the time.

After the 12 jurors are chosen, opening arguments will start; Lanez faces a maximum sentence of 22 years in prison.

Following the selection of those 12 jurors, opening comments will start, according to Hamilton, with the prosecution scheduled to speak first.

“Their goal is to convince the jury that what they are submitting as to what took place, actually took place beyond a reasonable doubt.”

On charges of felony assault with a semi-automatic weapon, personal firearm use, and keeping a loaded, unregistered gun in a moving vehicle, Lanez could spend up to 22 years in prison.
