Whoopi Goldberg and her fellow comics are experts at finding a good chuckle.

Amara Skye Dean, the granddaughter of Goldberg, recalled a tale about the late Robin Williams, Billy Crystal, and Goldberg having a “fart battle” in an elevator for a ridiculous joke in a clip from the ABC series Claim to Fame that was released by Entertainment Weekly.

In the video, Dean can be heard saying, “I wasn’t there, but it was my favorite tale that my grandma has told me. It was her, Billy Crystal, and Robin Williams waiting in an elevator while Robin Williams was just farting his life away. They seemed to be Dutch-ovening each other and enjoying the smell of farts.

Added she, “My grandma’s name derives from her propensity for frequent farts. So, farts and whoopee cushions. Caryn Johnson transformed into Whoopi Goldberg in this way.”

In the reality series Claim to Fame, co-hosted by Kevin and Frankie Jonas, relatives of famous people must keep their relationships a secret while attempting to determine the links of the others.

Crystal, 74, was referred to as “my big brother” by co-host Goldberg, 66, when he made an appearance on The View in May. For Goldberg’s birthday back in November 2020, Crystal made a surpise appearance on the talk show and gave her a touching photograph of them with Williams, who passed away in 2014 at the age of 63. He claimed that he views the image “every morning.”

When asked about their experience earning money through the Comic Relief charity events, Goldberg replied, “The three of us did some excellent stuff.

In a prior explanation of how she came up with her stage moniker, Goldberg acknowledged that it had anything to do with passing gas. In 2017, when she appeared on The Graham Norton Show, she said the nickname came about “because I was a bit of a farter.”

“There wasn’t much backstage space in the theaters I worked in because they were so small, so if you were gassy you had to [fart noises] during the entire performance. You are like a whoopee cushion, people would say. That’s what it evolved into, “At the time, she said.
