Freddie Gibbs caught up with Ebro Darden to help continue the hype surrounding $oul $old $eparately, and he has credited this album as his best yet. Aside from his lyrical abilities, Gibbs is known for his feuds with his peers, and while things have erupted on social media, he claims he doesn’t take them too seriously.
Gibbs spoke with Apple Music 1’s Rap Life Radio about his verbal altercations and how he manages to separate his street life from his music career.
“I’m the type to leave the street stuff in the streets and let the music take its course.” That’s why I don’t mind saying nobody’s name on my records and stuff like that,” Gibbs explained. “I don’t need to humiliate anyone in order to create controversy [or] to be one of the best.” I believe some people require that.”
“If you’re in the rap game and you need an enemy, you know what I’m saying?” “I’m the ideal foe for you because I’m not going to back down from you,” he went on. These interactions make Gibbs happy. “You say something, and I’m going to respond.” And I believe many people are aware of this. I feel like a lot of these people were told by their team, ‘Yo, go at Freddie Gibbs.’ ‘Nudge him and see what he says.'”
Gibbs is âall about the comedy end of itâ because, according to him, âThey canât really rap better than me.â He also stated that there are âprobably only five guys walking the planet earth that rap as good as me,â so the least of Gibbsâs concerns is a Rap battle.
