Let us get serious for a second, albeit artistically. NBCUniversal streaming platform Peacock has just released the official trailer for its upcoming documentary “Gary.”
Which delves into the life and legacy of Gary Coleman, the beloved child star of the hit sitcom “Diff’rent Strokes,” as well as the tragic circumstances surrounding his untimely death at the age of 42.
The project is directed by Robin Dashwood and produced by RAW. “Gary” chronicles Coleman’s spectacular ascent to popularity as the breakthrough star of the hit TV program “Diff’rent Strokes” and the challenges he endured in the years that followed.
Get this: the premium documentary offers an in-depth look at Coleman’s life, including his problems with depression and the controversies that arose following his tragic death.

Gary tells the incredible story of Gary Coleman’s journey to international popularity as the child star of “Diff’rent Strokes”; his difficulties with fame; and the controversy surrounding his sad death at the age of 42. For the first time, audiences will gain access to Coleman’s private life through exclusive interviews with his co-stars, industry insiders, his estranged ex-wife and parents.
This 90-minute feature documentary has never-before-seen interviews with Coleman’s intimate friends and colleagues, including his “Diff’rent Strokes” co-star Todd Bridges, former managers, and alienated family members. These interviews try to provide a better picture of Coleman’s problems, both in the spotlight and in his personal life. It sounds like it will go into some positive, tragic, and very real moments surrounding Coleman.
“Gary” is executive produced by Louise Norman, Tom Sheahan, Steve Boettcher, and Mike Trinklein and will premiere exclusively on Peacock on August 29.

Who was Gary Coleman? He became well-known in the late 1970s as Arnold Jackson, the wisecracking younger brother in “Diff’rent Strokes”. His catchphrase, “Whatcha talkin’ ’bout, Willis?” became memorable. Despite his early success, Coleman’s life was plagued by court disputes, financial troubles, and health issues caused by a congenital kidney ailment that slowed his growth and necessitated constant medical treatment. Deep all around.
Unfortunately, as an adult, Coleman struggled to find consistent work in Hollywood and had various personal issues. He engaged in a well known legal dispute with his parents over mismanagement of his earnings. Coleman’s death in 2010 as a result of a fall at home sparked criticism. His death was considered an accident, but it sparked much discussion and debate. There’s the dispute surrounding his death, which we’re sure the documentary will explore in depth.
