According to a statement from Bam Margera’s family, the “Free Bam” movement has put his sobriety in jeopardy.
Fans’ worries that the stunt performer had been placed under a conservatorship after his recent return to rehab were addressed in a new Instagram statement from the family, who claimed that they had “encouraged his discharge from treatment.”
It’s no secret that Bam has battled drugs and mental illness, they said. “You’ve supported Bam through his highs and lows as you’ve watched him mature. You have been invited into the turmoil of our home by our family, and we are eager to continue our journey together.
“Bam and our families are under attack and in disarray as a result of the ‘Free Bam’ movement. Even while we adore sharing our lives with you, there are some matters that should be handled in private, including treatment. Recovery is challenging, made more so by the spotlight.

Contrary to rumors, Bam has never been under a conservatorship; instead, he has been under a temporary healthcare guardianship for private reasons, the family said. “If Bam decides to address this, he will do so when he is prepared. Despite their lack of awareness of the specifics or the impact on his health and well-being, the “Free Bam” theorists have supported his withdrawal from treatment.
We kindly request that you respect the procedure and our family, the statement concluded. We kindly ask that you help Bam in his rehabilitation, keep him on track, and wish him luck with his sobriety as our extended family. The Margera Family, with love.”
Bam is presently receiving therapy, and we are assisting him with his social media while he concentrates on his recovery, the family further emphasized in the Instagram comments. We are his family, and we care about him and talk to him to work on his updates and content.
We sincerely appreciate all that his former healthcare guardian, @limafromaura, has done. We appreciate your support during this crazy adventure, everyone. The Margera Family, With Heart
Margera declared in May that he has finished a 12-month program of treatment for drug and alcohol abuse by posting a photo of his hand with the words “1 year” written on it and the statement, “ONE YEAR of treatment! #fuCKYeah #bamsfree #bamsback
After an altercation at a casino in Tampa Bay, Florida, last year, the artist was transported to treatment by police.
Margera was previously sacked from Jackass Forever after testing positive for drugs; however, he filed a complaint a year ago, alleging that producers forced him to sign a “Wellness Agreement” and broke his contract by firing him following a positive drug test.
In April of this year, he struck a settlement with Johnny Knoxville, Spike Jonze, Jeffrey Tremaine, Paramount Pictures, and others. According to court records, Margera requested that the action be dismissed (via TMZ).
