Jay Weinberg, the drummer for Slipknot, was “heartbroken and blindsided” to learn he was leaving the band.

Jay has stated that he was unaware that he was going to be removed from Slipknot. The musician, who has played with The E Street Band and is the son of Bruce Springsteen’s drummer Max Weinberg, has been a member of the band since 2014. He began playing with Slipknot in 2014, replacing Joey Jordison.

He shared the following on Instagram: “Most of you found out about the phone call I received early on November 5th, and I was shocked and devastated to hear about it.

“However, I’ve been overwhelmed by – and truly grateful for – the outpouring of love and support I’ve received from this incredible community I consider to be my creative and artistic home.”

Jay claims that despite his “sadness” at being fired by Slipknot, he will keep playing the drums.

He went on, “By no means is this the conclusion to the adventure I had imagined and dedicated myself to seeing through. But something has brought about an equal measure of comfort in spite of the uncertainty and grief. For a large number of readers: We had not yet met ten years ago. We are now, too. I will never be able to adequately thank you for that.

“I enjoy hitting the drums. I will always like being a drummer. My love for art, music, and creative expression will never go away. That won’t ever change for anything.”

In an earlier statement, the surviving members of Slipknot acknowledged Jay’s departure and said, “We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years.”Although Jay honored Joey’s contributions and added to the last three albums, we, the band, and the fans are grateful that he did. Joey Jordison’s original sound, flair, and intensity can never be duplicated.” The group declared, “Slipknot is intent on evolving.”The group has chosen to break up with Jay in a unique move. We are really looking forward to what lies ahead for Jay and wish him all the best.”
