Two IPTV Owners Are Sentenced To Prison Time For Operating An Illegal Streaming Service, Escalating The War On IPTV

Two additional IPTV owners have been sentenced to prison in Belfast Crown Court in the United Kingdom, adding to the war on IPTV.

This follows their convictions for providing IPTV subscriptions and pirate gadgets designed to provide unlawful access to TV shows.

The two men were accused of selling gadgets with built-in IPTV services in order to obtain free TV. These devices enable users to watch television for a fraction of the price of a cable TV subscription.

Padraig McVicker was sentenced to eight months in prison and six months in jail for running an IPTV. These sentences will run in parallel. Gary Doherty, his accomplice, was sentenced to 175 hours of community service. According to TorrentFreak’s report. Both men agreed to “selling, distributing, or letting for hire an unauthorized decoder or exposing for sale or hire an unauthorized decoder.”

IPTV providers frequently appear to be legal services, but they sell access to live TV channels such as ESPN and HBO without paying for the rights. This enables them to sell access to these channels at a fraction of the cost of legal services.

This follows the announcement last month by ACE, or the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment, that it had shut down three significant IPTV services that streamed live sports online. Amazon, Apple TV+, NBCUniversal, Netflix Studios LLC, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Paramount, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, and Warner Bros. are all members of ACE.

Late last month, on August 28 and 29, Egyptian police and the Egyptian Ministry of Internal Affairs detained two operators of live TV streaming services in synchronized arrests. These services had roughly 18 million visits per month on average. This comes after Egyptian officials took down other sites that received 5.9 million monthly views and 2.3 million monthly unique users earlier this year.

As cord cutting becomes more popular, media corporations are looking for methods to reduce their losses by cracking down on unlicensed IPTV providers. Hundreds of services have been shut down just this year, and an increasing number of IPTV service owners have been arrested.
