For a “Cliffhanger” reboot, Sylvester Stallone is coming back.
In the 1993 action thriller’s sequel, which is being directed by Ric Roman Waugh, the 76-year-old actor will return as mountain climber Gabe Walker.
A Mark Bianculli script is being directed by the ‘Angel Has Fallen’ director, and casting for Stallone’s supporting cast mates is now in progress.
Along with Stallone and Braden Aftergood’s Balboa Productions, Rocket Science, and Neal H. Moritz’s Original Film will produce the movie.
In a statement, Waugh said: “Having grown up watching the biggest action movies of the 1980s and 1990s and contributing to many of them, ‘Cliffhanger’ was unquestionably one of my favorite spectacles. Being in charge of the upcoming chapter and climbing the Italian Alps with Sylvester Stallone is a dream come true.
“It’s going to be a great challenge and a blast taking this franchise to new heights, a responsibility I don’t take lightly.”

“I’ll never forget the excitement I felt watching Sylvester Stallone in ‘Cliffhanger,'” Moritz continued. Working with him and Ric Waugh to continue Gabe Walker’s story and bring this legendary tale to a new generation of moviegoers around the world makes me tremendously happy.
Renny Harlin was the director of the first “Cliffhanger,” which follows Gabe as a botched air theft by a bunch of international criminals ensnares him during a rescue operation. The movie also included Janine Turner, Michael Rooker, and John Lithgow.
In addition to starring in ‘The Expendables 4’ later this year, Stallone will next be seen on the big screen in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, which is now in production.
