President Joe Biden has appointed Lady Gaga to co-chair his Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, the White House said on Thursday, April 13.
Along with Oscar-winning Hollywood producer Bruce Cohen, Mother Monster will serve as the group’s co-chair. Other committee members include Kerry Washington, Jon Batiste, George Clooney, Jennifer Garner, Troy Kotsur, Shonda Rhimes, Marta Kauffman, and more.
“Welcome to newly appointed members of the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities, led by @BruceCohen83 and @ladygaga!” the common Twitter account for the committee. “We look forward to working together to advance work in the humanities, libraries, and the arts across the nation.”
“Thank you @POTUS @PCAHgov,” Gaga tweeted in response to the announcement of her appointment. Her Little Monsters’ emotions ranged from patriotic and proud to comically perplexed. One person tweeted, “President Stefani Germanotta,” with a picture of the singer making a big entry at President Biden’s inauguration, where she sang the national song. Another, in the meantime, enthusiastically acknowledged, “I don’t know what this means but slay.”
According to a press release, the PCAH was established by executive order in 1982 with the mission to “advise the President on cultural policy” and “enhance federal support for the arts, humanities, and museum and library services.”
