Colt Gray, the suspected gunman accused of killing four people at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, arrived in court this morning, and it was surprising to see a 14-year-old charged with such horrible acts.

On Friday morning, the alleged shooter came at the Barrow County Courthouse in the rural Georgia town, accompanied by his lawyer. Two days later, authorities claim he opened fire at the school, murdering students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, as well as instructors Richard Aspinwall and Christina Irimie. Nine other people were hurt.

The judge read aloud Gray’s four felony murder accusations before asking him if he could read and write in English, to which he replied affirmatively.

The judge stated that due to the gravity of the charges and the nature of Gray’s alleged actions, he will be prosecuted as an adult.

Gray faces the maximum penalty for each offense, which is a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Gray’s attorney did not request bond, but said that he could at a later date.

Gray was already on police radar after reportedly making a dangerous threat regarding a school shooting on the social media platform Discord. He was eventually banned from the site for breaking the platform’s anti-extremism policy.

Local officials have yet to say whether a motive has been uncovered. Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith described the school shooting as “an evil thing.” Gray is thought to have acted alone; nevertheless, officials are still probing the matter.

Colin Gray, Gray’s father, was arrested on Thursday evening and charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to minors.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation learned that Colin Gray bought his son the AR-15 used in the massacre for Christmas… after the FBI visited their home. A minor cannot legally possess a handgun in Georgia.

Colin Gray also appeared in court on Friday morning, where a judge read the allegations. He also did not request a bond. Colin faces up to 180 years in jail if he is proven guilty of all charges.
