Under newly codified standards, users can now openly post, view, and share adult nudity and sexual content on X (previously Twitter).

Elon Musk’s social media network has revised its policy to permit adult pornographic content that is produced and distributed consentingly as long as it is “properly labeled and not prominently displayed.”

The platform’s policy says that “sexual expression, whether visual or written, can be a legitimate form of artistic expression.” “We believe in the autonomy of adults to engage with and create content that reflects their own beliefs, desires, and experiences, including those related to sexuality.”

The platform will continue to forbid the publication of porn that exploits, is not consensual, or encourages objectification, lewd acts, the sexualization of children, or any other sort of objectification. Additionally, it forbids the use of adult content in banners, profile photographs, and other areas that are accessible to the public.

Any portrayals of “full or partial nudity, including close-ups of genitalia, buttocks, or breasts” are considered “adult content,” according to the corporation. Adult content also includes simulated behaviors such as sexual intercourse and explicit or implied sexual activity.

The guideline states that viewers who are under the age of eighteen or who do not enter their birthdate in their profile will not be able to click on postings that are classified as adult content.

Adult content must have content warnings added by users.
Accounts that frequently upload adult content to the site are being urged by X to change their media settings so that a content warning is automatically added to their postings. Users are required by content warnings to accept that they are about to view an offensive post.

Users are also encouraged by the platform to provide one-time content warnings to specific postings. According to the guideline, those whose postings are not marked will have their account settings changed for them.

Before its 2023 redesign, the corporation still went by Twitter and permitted porn. As to a Reuters report from October 2022, the company estimated that approximately 13% of its material included of pornographic content.
