David Njoku’s face was seriously burned in the fire pit accident, but things could have been much worse… the Browns star says the fireball seared his face while his eyes were open, and he could have lost his sight.
“I give all credit to God.” “When it happened, my eyes were open, so I saw everything, and I really should’ve been blinded,” Njoku told reporters, adding… “Fortunately, I’m not, so I give all glory to God.”
Of course, the 27-year-old former first-round draft pick cemented his reputation as one of the hardest dudes in the game against the Ravens just days after the event, while wearing a helmet over the burned region.

“All the pain and suffering from training in the offseason is far worse than any of this,” Njoku told reporters.

Despite the burns, David was a bright spot for the Browns, catching six passes for 46 yards in a 28-3 loss to Baltimore.
Njoku initially did not reveal the injury. In fact, he walked into and out of the locker room wearing a full-face mask.
Then, earlier this week, David released a photo taken shortly after the incident, as well as another showing the burns healing slowly.
How he’s feeling right now… how’s that for good news?
“Never felt better.”
