Authentic Drive-In Theatres will celebrate their second annual Authentic Drive-Ins Horrofest this year, which will take place across the country.
The horror celebrations began on September 15 and will continue through October. Depending on where you reside, you can see a wide range of terrifying movies, from family-friendly fare to material reserved for older audiences only. The event will commemorate the 90th anniversary of drive-in theaters while also showcasing a wide range of vintage horror films.
Several legendary horror films’ anniversaries will also be commemorated at the event, including the 35th anniversary of Child’s Play, the 40th anniversary of The Slumber Party Massacre, and the 60th anniversary of Blood Feast. A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, The Exorcist, Friday the 13th, and The Evil Dead are among the other horror films playing at drive-ins. Independent horror shorts like Bloody Disgusting’s “Bloody Bites” will also be shown in drive-ins.
Not only that, but Some of the places will have eerie décor as well as other fun events such as costume contests, monster photo shoots, a horror flea market, and “TRUNK or TREAT” for children. Aside from that, the screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show will include a live Showcast performance, as has been the case with previous showings. Keep in mind that precise activities differ depending on region.
The Drive-In HorrorFest will also feature the 3rd annual World Drive-In Movies Festival and Jamboree, presented by Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl of The Last Drive-In. The guest of honor will be famed horror filmmaker and producer Roger Corman, who will appear at the Wind Drive-In Theatre in Las Vegas from October 6–8. Meanwhile, Full Moon founder Charles Band will shoot his latest feature there on Friday. Joe Bob, Darcy, and the special guests will also be on hand for autographs, meet-and-greets, and picture opportunities.
A Roger Corman Film Festival, the World Drive-In Movie Festival, and a Sleepaway Camp 40th Birthday Party will be part of the Drive-In Movie Festival. The latter will star Felissa Rose and other cast and crew members from the 1983 cult film. Following that, Joe Bob and Darcy will host a marathon of all four Sleepaway Camp movies.
The Authentic Drive-Ins website has a comprehensive list of venues and films. Other horror films scheduled to appear include The Exorcist, The Exorcist III, the recent horror smash hit Talk to Me, Critters, The Twilight Zone, Night of the Living Dead, The Lost Boys, Carrie, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Ghostbusters, Army of Darkness, Zombieland, John Carpenter’s The Thing, and many, many more.
