Sunday night in San Francisco, the Dallas Cowboys’ season came to an end as they lost 19-12 to the 49ers in the divisional round of the playoffs.
NFL supporters on Twitter started making fun of the team for their loss very fast.
The game’s last drive attracted a lot of attention from the audience. With a little more than two minutes left and no timeouts, the Cowboys were able to recover the ball. Dalton Schultz botched a basic sideline catch while quarterback Dak Prescott came dangerously close to taking a safety, and the club devised an experimental play that utterly failed during that time.
According to Shea Serrano, “this last drive is about as iconic as it gets for the cowboys and for cowboys supporters over the last 25 years, being little more than a farce with no genuine possibility at winning linked to it and no real threat to the opposition team.”
Patrick Daugherty added a joke, “Cowboys concluding back-to-back seasons with the new worst play in team history.”
“Cowboys is the funniest squad I ever seen in my life,” another user tweeted.
After the defeat, team owner Jerry Jones was open with reporters about his dissatisfaction with the squad: “Frankly, I wouldn’t say shocked.
I’d say we’re simply really upset that we might not have been able to do something.
With Dak at quarterback, Jones continued, “I thought this team had a chance to advance and play at the highest level in this tournament. I genuinely did.
