After a sexual assault conviction was reversed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in June 2021, Bill Cosby is considering a comedic comeback.
The former TV actor and comedian was speaking with Scott Spears on his WGH Talk radio show on Wednesday when he made a suggestion that he will resume touring in 2023. “Yes. Yes, since I find telling stories to be quite enjoyable. I discovered that it was preferable to say it after I wrote it years ago—maybe 10 years ago,” he stated in the interview.
The controversial comedian was planning a comeback to the stand-up comedy stage in 2019. This was revealed by Cosby publicist Andrew Wyatt to a source. In an email, Wyatt stated, “We’re looking at getting back out here around Spring/Summer of 2023.”
Cosby was released from a state prison after serving two years of a three- to ten-year sentence despite being found guilty of sexual assault. The court determined that the actor’s “non-prosecution agreement” with a previous prosecutor should have prevented him from being charged in a case that originated from a 2004 encounter with accuser Andrea Constand.
Without offering any explanation, the U.S. Supreme Court decided in March 2022 not to revisit the Cosby sexual assault case, putting an end to a two-decade legal saga and releasing the comedian, even though his reputation had already been destroyed by his prior conviction and imprisonment.
The 85-year-old TV star’s last comedy tour across North America was in 2015. Performances were met with protests and even cancellations after almost two dozen women came forward to accuse Cosby of sexual assault decades earlier.
The comedian protested his innocence through his attorneys at the time because he had not yet been charged in connection with the allegations. Just days before the 12-year statute of limitations passed, on December 30, 2015, Cosby was taken into custody in connection with the Constand case. He was tried for the criminal offense in 2017.
