The NBA and the Houston Rockets teamed to deliver interesting ideas to the AfroTech conference in Houston, which took place from November 13 to 16. <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the most notable events was the first-ever NBA Foundation Tech Challenge, in which 25 students from area universities like the University of Houston, Rice University, Prairie View A&M University, and Texas Southern University presented business ideas based on real-world difficulties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The judges for the challenge were Houston Rockets CMO Julian Duncan, NBA All-Star Baron Davis, and Amplitude’s Nikki Lasley. Prairie View A&M won the top prize, with each student getting $1,000 and a scholarship supported by a $25,000 grant from Amplitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NBA Foundation also funded 100 Houston-area students to attend AfroTech, where they received crucial networking opportunities and career advice from prominent tech professionals. On the Executive Stage, NBA President of Basketball Operations Byron Spruell, WNBA Head of League Operations Bethany Donaphin, and Rockets General Manager Rafael Stone spoke about the intersection of technology and basketball and offered career advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baron Davis also participated in a Fireside conversation about entrepreneurship and innovation, where he shared his skills in combining business and basketball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
