Raygun, an Australian breakdancer, has resigned from the sport professionally after receiving widespread criticism for her performance at this year’s Olympics.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Raygun (actual name Rachael Gunn) made her decision during an appearance on the Jimmy & Nath Show in her home nation, where she ruled out competing in future events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked if she will return for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles (which will not have breakdancing), Raygun laughed and said, “No!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She continued: “I still break, but I don’t compete. I am not going to compete anymore, no.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 37-year-old, who is a full-time lecturer at a university in Sydney, revealed that she was intending to continue competing after the Olympics, but “that seems a really difficult thing for me to do now, to approach a battle [\u2026] the level of scrutiny that will be there.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I still dance and I still break, but that’s in my living room with my partner,” she told me.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Raygun rose to global prominence last summer after doing a variety of strange dance routines at the Olympics’ first breakdancing competition in Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her unconventional act, which failed to gain a single point, featured waving her arms around, thrashing on the floor, and even bouncing on her feet like a kangaroo, sparking an outpouring of comments and memes online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the delight and bemusement of viewers all over the world, Gunn was chastised by members of the breakdancing community and even important Hip Hop personalities such as Dr. Dre.<\/p>\n\n\n

“I didn’t like it. “There are so many great breakdancers, I’m not sure why they had this particular person doing that,” the N.W.A veteran stated in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

“It was entertaining, and I laughed a few times, but what the fuck? [\u2026] There are fantastic breakdancers out right now; I’m not sure how it happened.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Raygunn expressed on the Jimmy & Nath Show that the criticism was bizarre and difficult to understand. But I try to focus on the good, and that’s what gets me through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“People have said, ‘You have inspired me to go out there and do something that I’ve been too shy to do.'” You’ve given joy and laughter; we’re very proud of you. And just really frickin\u2019 lovely things that people have written. That’s what I hang onto.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
