Alex Murdaugh is now serving two life sentences\u2026 but he may get a chance at freedom with a fresh murder trial\u2026 since South Carolina’s supreme court has agreed to hear charges of jury tampering.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Murdaugh’s attorneys claimed that Rebecca Hill, the Colleton County Clerk of Court, tampered with the jury during the tumultuous 6-week trial in March 2023, which resulted in the ex-lawyer’s conviction for the murders of his wife and son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hill may have had her own goal, as she allegedly advised jurors not to believe Murdaugh’s emotional testimony in order to ensure his conviction. Why? Murdaugh’s lawyers believe she sought to profit from her self-published book “Behind the Doors of Justice: The Murdaugh Murders.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hill’s book was taken off the shelf when WCSC-TV reported that he admitted to plagiarizing a part. She resigned from her office in March 2024, after the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division opened an inquiry following charges that she used her elected position for personal advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January 2024, South Carolina Chief Justice Jean Toal declined a retrial, determining that Hill’s lack of credibility was insufficient to warrant a fresh trial. Murdaugh’s lawyers approached the South Carolina Supreme Court, which has now agreed to investigate Murdaugh’s jury-tampering charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
